Published in the Knot Magazine: Happy Wedding Day, Ashley & Tyler!

This fun photo of Ashley and Tyler was published in this summer's edition of The Knot Magazine, complete with a darling story about how Tyler proposed. One of the things I love about this photo is that they are in their own neighborhood of Lafayette Square, riding Tyler's dearly loved motorcycle. Like many of my personal favorite photos, this image combines our imagery with elements that are important and sentimental to our couple. A winning combination.

Today, these two are getting married! Congrats, Tyler and Ashley!!

Rebecca & Alex's Missouri Botanical Gardens Reception

Rebecca and Alex have lived in China for the past nine years. The two got married about a year ago, but since they live in China, they decided to throw a reception so that they could celebrate with all of their family and closest friends back in the states. For their reception, they picked the Missouri Botanical Gardens. The Botanical Gardens are full of gorgeous greenery, lush trees, and beautiful flowers, but the unique buildings and beautiful paths make the gardens even more stunning.  On a beautiful summer evening, Rebecca and Alex renewed their vows and celebrated with all their friends and family. Rebecca and Alex have the cutest kids and a wonderful family - it was truly a pleasure to photograph their reception.

Amidst all that beauty and love, we got some unexpected and hilarious entertainment. Apparently Rebecca and Alex's reception coincided with the annual St. Louis Naked Bike Ride. Hundreds of bikers in varying stages of undress rode right town Tower Grove Avenue, visible from the pavilion's windows. Rebecca and Alex decided to take advantage of the truly unique opportunity and grab a few shots with the bikers in the background (a slow shutter speed gave us some much needed motion blur!). All in all, it was an unforgettable day for an adventurous couple. Best wishes and congratulations to Rebecca and Alex!

St. Louis Bridal Session - Emily

Bridal sessions. This fine Southern tradition isn't quite as much of a thing in the Midwest, but our stunning, Texan bride Emily reminded me exactly why this is one tradition worth keeping around. If you don't know much about them, here's a rundown: bridal sessions occur 1-2 months before the wedding. The bride gets all done up in full wedding day style - the dress, the veil, the shoes, all the accoutrements, hair, make-up, and sometimes even a bouquet! The goal is to look just as you would on your wedding day, and in the South, the tradition is to display a large portrait at the reception.

Even if you aren't drawn in by the tradition, a bridal session is a wonderful time to take some gorgeous photos of your bridal look. There's no timeline to work around, no location restraints, and no unexpected wedding day surprises. It's a great way to actually use that hair and make-up trial. Plus, many brides discover something about their look that needs adjusting - whether it's a hair-do that wilted too quickly, shoes that cause blisters, or a piece of boning that stabs you right in the ribs, it's great to discover this before the actual wedding.

Emily was such an elegant and stunning bride, and I'm so glad we were able to capture these photos of her at the Central Library downtown and at Washington University.

Erin & Pete's Missouri Botanical Gardens Engagement

Missouri Botanical Gardens Engagement Photos | St. Louis, MO

I absolutely love Missouri Botanical Gardens engagement photos! The beautiful flowers and trees combined with such interesting architecture is a fantastic combination. It was the perfect location for Pete and Erin since it is where Pete proposed. Pete and Erin started off with a more classic, formal outfit for the Botanical Gardens. Erin's timeless blue dress and statement necklace paired perfectly with Pete's navy slacks and white button-down. The perfect combination for Missouri Botanical Gardens engagement photos. After they changed into a more casual outfit, we walked around a nearby neighborhood to get some more creative and casual photos. I love the shots of Pete and Erin under the overpass; the light, architecture, and even the random dude on a bike made for some of my favorite shots!

We photographed Pete's sister's wedding last fall before Pete and Erin got engaged, and we were so thrilled when they contacted us to shoot their wedding. Photographing more than one wedding for the same family or group of friends is such a fun experience; we are looking forward to seeing Pete's family again (and we are already wondering if Pete's brother will shoot off some fireworks!). Can't wait for their December wedding later this year.
