It might come as a shock to you, but this wedding did not take place in St. Louis. Rather, this lovely wedding was just outside Charlottesville, VA, and I (Elizabeth) shot it with my dear friend Rachel, while Andy played golf. Victoria and Miguel were incredibly sweet and wildly in love. Miguel looked at Victoria the way an artist looks at the sunrise, as though committing every detail to memory. Their wedding was tender and lovely, and then their reception was wild. Seriously, these guys knew how to dance, and the DJ kept choosing the perfect songs. It was awesome - Rachel and I kind of bobbed around, holding our camera, but unable to stop our feet. (I'd hate to see how I actually look when I do that semi-dance with my camera - it's probably really embarrassing.) After a sparkler exit, Victoria and Miguel drove off into the night.

Rachel

This past week, Andy and I packed our bags and headed east to my motherland of Virginia. It was a whirlwind of a trip with tons of quick stops and all too short visits, but I'm looking forward to pulling a few of the highlights to share on this blog of ours. The photos above are of my dear friend Rachel. She and I are true compatriots; we share the same distinct southern/Virginian cultural identity, and we have lived as foreigners in a strange land. Plus, we have pooled our closets, navigated foreign countries, narrowly avoided disaster, and maintained a long-distance friendship for years.

Rachel and I first met at the University of Virginia, and later, we shared a room in Florence, Italy for 4 months - an experience that cemented our friendship like no other. When I look at Rachel, I am flooded with the memory of train stations, our lovely Italian flat, Scottish haggis, strange fashion choices, and our first photography class (actually, the same class where I met my husband!). Rachel is a photographer out in Virginia, and we met up with her at our alma mater for some old-fashioned picture taking. It was entirely wonderful to see her, to reminisce, and to tromp around on UVA's stunning grounds. We desperately need a longer visit (hint, hint!).

Blogging a wedding is not always an easy task. We flip through hundreds of photos and try to pick our 50 favorites that tell an emotional and real story of a beautiful couple's wedding. Then, we look to see how many we narrowed it down to and we find  that instead of 50 images, we have closer to 150. Oops. This wedding hit all the high notes, and as such, selecting blog photos was even harder than usual. From our first meeting with Carolina, Daniel, and her parents, we knew that this wedding would be a wonderful one. Carolina and Daniel are such a warm couple - quick to laugh, clearly in love, and easy to like. When the added bonuses of Carolina's flawless style and Daniel's impressive dance moves, I think we may have stumbled upon a wedding photographer's dream couple. We loved every inch of this wedding. Carolina highlighted her rose gold engagement ring with a custom rose gold belt, perfectly coordinating jewelry, and some fabulous studded Sam Edelman heels. She even had some rose gold Sperry's as a back-up dancing shoe. The navy bridesmaid dresses were tasteful and understated, but the mix of styles added touches of personality (something her bridesmaids had plenty of). While we have seen a multitude of first dances, Carolina and Daniel made sure that theirs was not easily forgotten. While they started out to the smooth sounds of Nat King Cole, the music abruptly switched over to "Suavemente" by Elvis Crespo mid-song, and Carolina and Daniel finished their first dance with a mean merengue. The crowd loved it, and so did we. They both looked so happy (and no wonder, I'd be happy if I could dance like that), and we loved how their smiles just radiated genuine joy.

Carolina and Daniel were married at the Holy Redeemer Catholic Parish in Webster Groves, MO. Their reception was held at the St. Louis Zoo's Lakeside Cafe. Our most sincere congratulations to you, Carolina & Daniel. You are charming and lovely, and we were honored to be a part of your wedding.
